Meet the Members of Montaque Roots
Michelle
The creator of Montaque Roots
Welcome to Montaque Roots!
Born and raised in Montana, there are two words that describe me: mountain girl. From the time I was a little girl, I’ve explored many game trails and hidden lakes, harvested animals, and fished with my dad. My Montana heritage has taught me how to live and work with nature in any condition, how to navigate in the wilderness and how to grow and preserve my own food. My life has been shaped by my love for the Lord and all that He has given us to enjoy. From this, my deep appreciation for nature continues to be the foundation of who I am and what I do. Montaque Roots was created based off of my heart felt passion and calling to share experiences and knowledge that I have gained over years of experience, research, trial, error, and persistence. The meaning of Montaque is peaked mountain. The Roots part of the name embodies the many generations of my family living in Montana. We are rooted here in the mountains that have been our home for generations.
I’m a creative and resilient spirit. By day, I work as a Registered Nurse, bringing compassion, skill, and hope to the people I take care of. Outside of my profession, I’m tending my modern micro-homestead and spending each spare minute enjoying the outdoors.
Our little home business, previously named Mountain Girls Homestead, was created many years ago when my oldest was diagnosed with stage III kidney cancer. Through that journey, I homeschooled my three girls, maintained our homestead, and worked part time. I learned to make soap while she did chemo/radiation because her skin became delicate from treatment and because we wanted to take a healthier approach to life. After much research into the harmful chemicals, pesticides and preservatives that we put into our foods and hygiene products, we decided to go organic with just about everything.
Then the soap and home products making journey began. Now, here we are, years later, as one grateful and thankful family, enjoying every day that God gives us. We are constantly learning, working and growing together. Documenting parts of our life, encouraging others and sharing knowledge, we are always dreaming, creating and inspiring.
“To your roots be true,” Montaque.
Michelle (Prov. 31:26-27)
Jocelynn
Eldest Daughter
I'm a home-grown girl with big dreams. Though I work as an accountant in a public firm, I am truly a farmgirl at heart. I adore being in nature, often taking long walks, caring for my chickens, or tending the garden. The rest of the time, I write stories and poetry, quilt, bake pies, and think up new business ideas. Through my work with Montaque Roots, my hope is to encourage others to follow their dreams, live a fulfilling life, create things uniquely theirs, and find the beauty in the ordinary.
Jocelynn (Romans 8:28)
Sophia
Middle Daughter
Hi! I am the coffee-obsessed mountain girl. I love sewing, cake baking, taking photos, drawing, camping, and being in the great outdoors. But most of all, I love coffee! I am currently practicing my coffee making skills so that I can become a professional barista. One day, I want to own my own coffee shop. I believe coffee is a science, an art, and a daily necessity.
Sophia (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Nikole
Youngest Daughter
Ask anyone in my family and they will tell you that I am a vintage junkie at heart with a love for everything outdoors. I love to spend my spare time baking, painting, sewing, and doing any type of craft. I’m also bookworm . My home is the outdoors, whether that be in the garden, sitting with the chickens, hiking a mountain trail, camping, or fishing. I am passionate about conservation and am currently in an internship with the forest service. I wish to use wisdom in the dominion that God has given us over this world. I have learned so much from my mom about gardening up here in the mountains of Montana. And My goal is, to become a Master Permaculturalist. Until then I will keep reading, watching, and learning all I can.
Nikole (Hebrews 11:3)
